I ordered some of these and some two tone G10 and plan to give DIY a shot.Ĭool! Post some pics as things progress, this whole key mod thing is pretty cool, and I'd love to see some custom covers. Too bulky and to much weight or a lightweight build imo. I'll have almost $100 tied up in the rail sections alone, then no telling how much in mating and fasteners.īut I think something better needs to be developed - as far as I am concerned the stuff thats out there is a joke (on par with air soft). I have a feeling that these will need to be custom made, and probably expensive. So some sort of shouldered nut will be needed to act as the anti-slide / locating mechinism that interacts with the larger circular portion of the keymod hole.

Once the rail sections are milled, they will essentially no longer function as intended (because the bottom of the rail section which has the locating tabs will be gone). I plan on milling the rail sections down to make them thinner - thus drawing the rail covers closer to the actual rail. I'll try and attach an image to show my current mock up.Īll I have done so far is use a set of keymod pic rail sections to mount the rail covers, but as you'll see in the picture they sit way too far off the rail to be useable. I'd rather build my own anyway - that way no one else has anything like it. The keymod covers that are currently available on the market today are more than disappointing. I am trying to come up with the best way to mount a set of KAC rail covers to my NSR rail.

I just stumbled across this thread, and its exactly what I'm looking to do - come up with a more robust design keymod cover.
